While living in New York I had a brief and unsuccessful stint as a waitress at a very trendy Italian restaurant in Nolita called Emporio. I didn’t know much about Italian food then, and while I’m not sure I know a lot about it now I certainly learned a great deal more on the subject while waitressing. Nothing came of the job as I was unceremoniously fired after about 3 weeks 🙄 but I came to absolutely love the food.
Now, whenever I make my way back to the city it’s a must that I eat at Emporio. On my most recent trip to New York last week it was my very first stop. A close friend from grad school met me and we enjoyed an afternoon of good food, good convo and good wine.
It was such a beautiful day that I decided to forgo white wine and instead chose a nice Rosé. I guess Italians call it Rosato which is fancy as f*ck and this particular glass was produced by Molino a Vento. Anyways it’s not a provincial Rosé, read: not French, instead it sports a deeper hue of pink and truth be told – I prefer it.
I know, I know, everyone likes the pretty pale pink but Instagram photos aside this rosé is still crisp and refreshing without being too dry and giving me a headache – which many of the provincial rosés do. Fight me.
Now, about the food. It’s f*cking awesome. Seriously. I got the rigatoni with mushrooms, sausage, truffle and a bit of ricotta which turned out to be rich, hearty and delicious. Additional favorites include the charred broccoli rabe, the octopus – which comes with a delicious potato salad concoction that somehow works incredibly well, and the spinach mafaldine. The restaurant’s staple item is without a doubt the risotto croquettes – an exceptionally delicious fried ball of mushroom risotto.
Anyways I’m trying to lose weight for Vietnam so I won’t be eating anything this rich for a very long time but if you find yourself in New York, make your way to Emporio. 💋
